MCT Ex - Marine & Offshore | RGSFB Ex
At sea Oil rigs

RGS Ex rated cable and pipe transits are used in Ex hazardous maritime and offshore environments to minimize danger by preventing the spread of fire, water, gas chemicals and other hazardous substances.

RGSFB Ex

For bolting

RGSFB Ex is for bolting. The bolted transits can be used in areas where welding is prohibited, or when the stress level induced by welding is unacceptable. For installations where cables are already in place, specify RGSFBO Ex which has a removable end.

Component is not intended to be used alone and requires additional consideration when incorporated into other equipment or systems for use in explosive atmospheres (refer to IEC 60079-0)

  • Ex system combined with EMC has yellow marking on the front face (see EMC instructions)

Correct and safe installations

To achieve the highest standard of safety, a cable or pipe transit must be installed correctly. As there are many different types of frame – which may be either welded, bolted or glued into position – and insert block, it is essential that installers known when to use the most appropriate installation method.

For more information, please view following instructions, videos or download manuals as PDFs.

Components Ex

Ex and ATEX requirements are very strict, some Ex Insert blocks may not be approved with certain systems.

Use bolts for this transit

This transit was designed for areas where welding is prohibited or welding induced stress levels making welding unacceptable. This transit is therefore to be fastened by bolts to ensure installation quality.

RGSFB Ex is a standard transit with a flange and Ex gasket that allows the frame to be bolted where welding is not possible.

RGSFB Ex can also be installed in multiple frames.

RGSFB Ex transits are supplied in kits, complete with drilled holes, bolts, nuts, washers and a gasket or sealing compound. The flange is 60x10mm. (2.36”x0.39”).

Standard frames come in four sizes: 2, 4, 6 and 8. They are all the same width. Height differences are shown below. The material is 10 mm thick.

Standard frames come in eight sizes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
The internal width can be 60.5 ± 1 (Size 1,3,5,7) or 120.5 ± 1 (2,4,6,8).

Note that there can be limitations in type-approvals & certificates, making certain sizes inapplicable.

For size and weight please see tables in the MCT Online Catalogue:

General

The system consists of a frame, rubber blocks and a compression unit. The frame is welded or bolted to a Ex hazardous marine structure and packed with rubber blocks suited for each cable and pipe dimension. The compression unit is inserted to compress the rubber blocks against cables and pipes to establish a tight seal.

Benefits of MCT Brattberg Ex systems

  • Ex rated transit for hazardous environments
  • Assists cable management
  • Seals the penetration against the passage of fire, water, gas, sound and environmental hazards
  • Can be combined with special EMC modules and for Grounding and Bounding
  • Unlike other brands our system can be dismantled and re-used
  • Cable dimension marked on block
  • No adaptation of standard blocks needed
