Cable management

Planning ahead

  • Use our RG Plan Software. 
  • Pull cables through the correct windows.
  • Provide adequate support for the cables.
  • Create access to allow lubrication and insert installation, particularly fitting the endpacker and compression plate.
  • Ensure minimum crossover of cables and correctly plan the routing (to include the trays) as they peel off in each area.
  • Build in spare capacity.
  • Bend the radius of cables according to the manufacturer’s specification and ensure correct alignment with frames.
  • The support trays / ladder rack need to be terminated at least 300 mm before the bulkhead and transit.
  • EMC Installations must be treated with special care to allow cables to be adjusted whilst trimming off sheath and accurate positioning within the frame for block location.
  • Check cable diameters with manufacturer’s specifications and measure to confirm accurate dimensions of cable O/D.
  • Spread the cables across the full width of the frame utilising all windows available with the largest cables at the bottom and smallest at the top when no planning software is used. (Don't cram all cables in the first window and leave all the rest with blanks). 


Cable pulling

  • Cables must be pulled in such a way that they are at 90 ° to the frame, and perpendicular and parallel to the frame.
  • Cables must be in good condition (not scratched) or chaffed where they pass through the frame.
  • Check cables for roundness or ovality.
  • If the cross-sectional shape is outside the required tolerance, special blocks or other method must be used to complete a good seal.
  • Ensure cables are not cleated 1 m either side of the opening to allow correct positioning.
  • Make sure that the largest cables are at the bottom and the  smallest cables are at the top of the transit where possible.
  • Check that the correct number of cables are installed in the right windows.

Testing and inspection

Testing for certification purposes is carried out in independent laboratories throughout the world. The Fire Test Procedure (FTP Codes) Standards, however, apply equally to all laboratories, no matter their location.
